Alright so I'm new to having a planted tank. I added some fish and plants to my tank a few days ago. I added them straight to the tank, because the only fish in it at the time were some that I was using to cycle the tank with. Right now I have: 2 vals, 2 brazil swords, cardinal plant, and wendtii. As far as fish, 9 redeye tetras, 1 female beta, 4 blue rams, 3 threadfin rainbows (these are the fish I spotted the ich on), and 1 gold nugget pleco.

Well yesterday I spotted ich. I decided to treat with high temp and salt. So far so good on that front. What I'm wondering is if the salt I added is going to hurt/ kill the plants (one teaspoon per gallon)? Also I was reading up on parasites and read that adding one tablespoon per 5 gallons can help to prevent illness. Would that hurt my plants as well? Perhaps they would acclimate to a small amount of salt?

Thanks for your help!

I used sea salt from the grocery store which I read was acceptable and like I said I used one teaspoon per gallon in my 55 gallon.

I'd keep an eye on it. Your crypts may suffer and melt but if they sprout back just anticipate them melting away again when you stop dosing salt.

Do you have another tank around? You should really just quarantine sick fish in a bare bottom that oyu can dose as needed. Even a rubbermaid container serves this purpose, especially when it's ich as you can clean a bare bottom far more easily.

to treat ich in my planted tank I used aquari-sol, worked the two times ive had ich and my plants lived and so did all my fish!
