ich treatment

I've had great success with quick cure ich meds. High heat and salt works okay too. DO NOT do ich meds with high heat and saly combined!

Treat at half doses (1 drop per 2 gallons @ tank listed water volume... not actual) for three days/treatments and then do a water change, clean mechnical filtration, and start all over again. Ex: Day 1: 50% gravel vac water change, clean mechanical filtration, then half dose of Quck Cure. Day 2: half dose of Quick Cure. Day 3: another half dose of Quick Cure. Day 4: 50% gravel vac waterchange, clean mechanical, then half dose of Quick Cure again like Day 1. Day 5: half dose Quick Cure. Day 6: half dose Quick Cure. Day 7: same as Day 1 and 4. Day 8: half dose Quick Cure. Day 9: another half dose of Quick Cure. Day 10: same as day 1,4, and 7. (get it?) and so on and so on till you see no signs of ick. Then keep doing the treatment cycle for another 10 -14 days. I have killed some pretty resilient ick with this method.

Raise temperature to 86-88F
Add one teaspoon of salt per gallon
Wait 12hrs, if fish is fine
Add one teaspoon of salt per gallon
Wait 12hrs, if fish is still fine
Add one teaspoon of salt per gallon

Keep treatment up for 10 days. Your fish will get worse before he gets better, just make sure temperature is 86-88F.

If treating with heat and salt keep the water oxygenated. heat and salt will deplete oxygen. Surface movement and bubbler will help.

Hi,
I see that these posts are older.

I have read that i should treat the tank for a week. Everytime I have tried meds in the past I have lost most of the fish. Haven't had a break out in years. Unfortunately I do know why I got the break out.

I am increasing the temp and added aquarium salt. Should I add the salt everyday? Just want to make sure about the treatment. The breakout is in my 55gallon.

Foe non-scaleless fish:

Add 1 tablespoon salt per 5 gallons. Increase the heater over 24 hours so the tank thermostat reads 86.5 - 87.5ºf. Some heaters like fluval will take over 24 hours to obtain this temperature and can be cause you to cut them higher than need be. You can find the temp too high so go slowly and carefully.

Add another tablespoon per 5 gallons and, 6 hours later, another tablespoon per 5 gallons for ~33 tablespoons total in 55 gallons.

Wait 7 days at this temperature after the last white spot was visible before reducing temp or salinity. I don't encourage gravel vacs during an ick outbreak. They can't eradicated by vacuuming but they can be spread to other tanks or wait in the gravel vac to reinfect that tank. Just wait them out with heat and high salinity and every last tomont will erupt and be killed.
