I found tiny white spots on my 3" Crenicichla sp. "Xingu I" when I came back from school today. :(

I haven't had an ich problem for years! The very strange thing is, no other fish in the same tank has the spots (although the Carpinte are scratching). I just checked the water parameters, and everything's fine. The pike's still eating voraciously, and so is every one of its tankmates. I did a 60% water change this afternoon. I also discovered something else: Last week, when my 4.5" datnoid was still in the tank, it was constantly scratching. I've since moved it to another tank and the scratching has stopped. ALSO, a pair of Herichthys carpinte (male and female 2.5" long) I just moved into the very same tank have begun scratching too (however, they do NOT show any white spots on their bodies). They never scratched in their original tank. Something is obviously very wrong with the water in the pike tank, eh?

What is the temp of your tank?
I'm not sure; I don't use a heater because I'm in Singapore. But since the room temperature ranges from 28 to 32 C, I'd estimate the water temperature to be around that range too. I forgot to add that I've added a lot of salt to the tank.

And thanks for the quick reply.

You need a heater if not just for this purpose. You need to get it up to 84-86 degrees f. I just fought off a bout from a major addition/total move around. I added a little salt and still have all the tanks at 86 and everyone is better. even my EBJD who is very very small and caused all of this.....

Yeah, I KEEP all my tanks at at least 82 to 85 degrees. Right now both of them are at 84 degrees...:D. Its the best way to keep the ich away. Bump the temp up a little, but don't go above 86. Then just add the salt. Should work itself out in a day or three. Be sure to increase the circulation of the tank with a powerhead if you can, as the dissolved oxygen in the tank will be lower cuz of the raised temp! Hope that helps! Let us know if it doesn't! ;)

How goes it? If you don't have results right away just be patient....don't add more salt!! LOL! It takes a few days for the ich to go through its life cycle, but it'll get em!!! ;)

Don't add??! LOL. Before I read your post I added another heaped tablespoon of salt because I saw that the spots have spread all over the pike now. The other fish sharing the tank are still unaffected. I realise that juvenile Crenicichla are very susceptible to ich. BTW, are all Crenicichla in the hobby today wild-caught?

How many gallons is the tank and how much salt would you say you have used?
