i was wondering if a UV sterilizer kills ich in its free swimming/water born stage? im wondering because a friend of mine thinks he has ich. he has an in line uv sterilizer. all help appreciated..

I can't answer the question about the UV sterilizer but if your friend really does have ich tell him to buy a medicine called quick cure, it worked great for my fish when my tank had ick and I didn't even lose any fish

I think it does work against ich, but it needs to pass though the uv. I would think that some of the ich would land on decorations/gravel before the water even has the chance to get to the uv.

If it is ich don't forget to bump the temp up and if you are going to use meds remove the carbon from your filter.

UV sterilizers will rid your tank of ich. Just make sure to raise the temp, as it will increase effectiveness.

It possibly does, but I've been unlucky (and stupid) enough to have a couple of Ich infestations on a planted tank that runs a UV Sterilizer.
UV sterilizers and planted tanks is a bad combo, as you will destroy your nutrients that the plants need. UV will hinder a planted tank, and is not worth the time on a planted tank.

Going fine so far ;)
