I have three mbuna in a 55 gal. Ive been noticing one of them "brushing" its side against the gravel. The next day, i noticed another one doing the same thing. this is a case of ich right? spreading around to my other fish. anyways i dont have any carbon in my filter so would it still be okay to treat my tank with commercial medication? what about the other fish that doesnt seem to have the disease yet... will it be affected in any way by the medication? i dont have a quarentine tank yet, gonna get one soon hopefully, but dont want the disease to get worse.

It does not always have to be ich. Consider bacterial infection, skin flukes, gill flukes and external parasites as other causes. If I were you, continue monitoring your fish until the actual symptoms appear. Occasional scratching is not something to be concerned of. With ich, you need to treat the whole tank. Isolating is pointless as the ich has already infested other hosts. Just be prepared with your table salt but do not treat until you can confirm this is indeed ich.

Don't treat for ich unless you start seeing the white spots. I have found flashing is just something mbuna do. As long as it's not excessive it's usually not something you need to worry about. It's just one of their quirky habits :)
Keep an eye on them and if disease does appear then treat.

What medication are you planning on using? Unless using salt and heat, any other medication would be removed by activated carbon assuming it still retains its efficacy (not mroe than a few weeks old).
