What does ich do to your fish beside make them ugly?

i have found the best way to sure it is to turn up the heat slighly in your tank.

the increased heat speeds up the breeding process. eventually it breeds quicker than it can develop and dies

i know that sounds wrong but i cant explain it. but it works. also i add a tiny bit of salt. i had a major problem when i first got my figure 8 puffers few years back. not had a problem now for about 2 years

its a parasite that can cause stress to your fish

also causes them to try and scratch it off. they can be seen rubbing up against ornaments in teh tank

what temp kills ich ?
I'm against increasing temp beyond 86 degrees in general. Not all fish will tolerate it unfortunately. Just use salt and increase temp as high as your fish can tolerate and make sure you have adequate oxygen supply in there. There are instructions for dosing salt in a sticky thread for ich.

And ich being parasites will injure your fish's slime coat allowing bacteria especially Flexibacter columnare to infiltrate the bloodstream thus the fish suffers bacterial infection in the process. Ich and columnaris are quite symbiotic with each other. Be careful of this. Unfortunately, columnaris bacteria is always present in every tank and will infect the fish when an opportunity arises. It appears more as a secondary infection than the one initiating an attack.

Just to clarify , Ich will not survive above 86 degrees ? So if i can get 87 or 88 ich would die automatically ?

it's pain in the S.. they will keep coming if you don't treat it for at least a month!
plus expect a good electric bill

I've never done heat only treatment as I am neither convinced by it nor wished to risk my fish. All of my fish were unable to tolerate extremely high temperature so I added salt while increasing the temp no higher than 86 degrees to ensure the parasites were destroyed.

I'm doing heat only with my discus and larger amazon cichlids. They like the heat. I have my tank at 89F. When I brought the Temp up that day my fish stop flashing. There are 2 spot on one discus and one spot on another fish that all I see. It's not getting worst the spots go fast.

The heat treatmeant should not be used on a fish with heavy infestation IMO. It works great for light infestation. But you can not let the water temp drop at all during treatmeant. That is the hardest part. I am going to keep the heat up for a month to make sure it's dead.

There is a crazy ih strain that can live at 90f and if you have that kind the heat treatment might not work. If you don't see any improvment in a day or 2 when you use heat you might need to try another way.
