so today's ago i noticed white spots on my smallest clown loach. i hve a 120g comm tank with a diy sump. so far i have only noticed him with spots but my betta has been hiding alot i guess trying to to get sick. my larger loaches about 3.5 inches i have noticed rubbing on the rocks. no signs of white spots yet but im guessing they are infected also. so i started dosing salt and raised my temp to 80. afraid to go higher since i house so many diff fish in the same tank. afraid also that to much salt is going to kill all my plants. anyway my question is anything else i can do? and how long does it take to see the spots go away from the fish . i guess so i can know that the ich has been killed or suppressed. thanks for any info

When I first started doing this I though I would never get ich but it happens in every tank my cure for it is to raise the heat up in the tank I usually do 86 deg and add some salt and wait for a couple of days and when its time to do a water change I do only 25% and still leave the tank at that heat and in the following W/C drop the tank 2 deg and you should be fine. Good luck my friend

thanks. yeah me too i thought i would never get it since i have great filtration and take of allll my babies well. i just feel bad for my small clown loach all them spots on him

I had that same problem about a week ago, raised the temp to 82 and brought the salt content up to sg of 1.0. within 2 or 3 days the spots had cleared up. But I still have my tank at the higher temp and salt content to kill anything in the substrate. seems to be doing good so far.

The normal life span of Ich is about a week at about 70 degrees. Thats the reason for raising the water temp, it speeds up their life cycle and makes them hatch in a matter of days. Now keep in mind before they hatch they are imune to the salt. That is why you have to keep the same temp and salt levels for at least a week. I dont plan on starting to bring down my temp or salt levels for about 2 more weeks just to be safe.
