When you learn Ichthyology, what are you really learning about?

Yep, I hope to go into ichthyology for my masters/Ph.D. It basically encompasses the ecology, biology, biochemistry, biophysics, and taxonomy of all fishes. You specialize in a certain area such as neurobiology of fishes, or a specific taxon of fish.

i'm not sure of exactly what your question is but studies in ichthyology can be offered at the university level and falls under the biology department. dr. herbert axelrod comes to mind, when i think of renowned ichthyologists. he had a Phd in the field. one would have to complete an undergraduate degree in biology and then enter a doctoral program to specialize in ichthyology.

Yes, i am going to get a bs/masters degree in biology. Didnt know what to specialize in when i will be getting my ph.d, definately will be ichthyology, and i would really like to specialize in Polypteridae.

it's hard to specialize in fish that aren't native to your country, but it can be done. bonne chance!!!

I will just move then.

that's the spirit! if you find a good program, it's easier to study fish abroad, though.

Ofcourse, my life is and always will be dedicated too fish (especially polypterus).

And for further research, i would really like to study breeding and maybe Senegalus Marulioides in general, how does that sound?

That's similar to my future plan!
