So 3-4 weeks ago my whitewater tank got ick. I had a hydrolycus tatauaia, juruense catfish, nandus nandus, ace. falcirostris and two small catfish.

I treated the tank for maybe a week with salt and heat.

Now I added a new Nandus Nandus and my Juruense catfish has ick. He has a mild case, so I don't think it's from adding the new fish since it hasn't even been 12 hours.

Also, right now another one of my tanks has ick and those fish are also too sensitive for the medications.

The last three fish I got from this store, I got ick outbreaks after adding. :swear::swear::swear:

Sounds like you should invest in a QT tank.

yeah that or get a new fish store. the only time i got ick was from a walmart gourami. i should have saw that one coming but up went the temp and in with the salt. oh yeah if you put that kordon medicine that says will dye tank seals and deco blue, its not lying. of course i read that little warning afterwords. i spilled it on my carpet too.:irked:

Well I work at a LFS and I always get good deals on the fish, but we don't always get the more exotic fish and this is the only one I know of that gets these kinds of fish.

I guess I will have to find somewhere to put a QT tank. Maybe I will pick up a 20H from petco. The weird thing is, at the store I don't really see ick too often. Also, the two latest times, the new fish didn't actually have ick, but the old ones caught ick right after I added them.

I really think I am going to have to buy bulk salt or something.

i heard salt from home depot of lowes works? i would research first of course before doing that but its much cheaper in bulk.

The store is not to blame here, wether it be a LFS or wal-mart.
Alot of fish just don't ship well.
Sounds to me that maybe your last outbreak never fully got cured and the adding of the new fish may have stressed your juruense to the point he is now showing symptoms. Either way the scaleless fish usually show signs of ich first, here is a good read on how to treat and prevent ich: http://www.cichlid-forum.com/articles/ich.php
If you didn't treat the tank for 2 weeks I'd say it's just a recurrence of your last outbreak.
I have used coppersafe in the past and also recommend it, my juruense was fine with the medication.
If you feel that you didn't need this information I apologize;)

When you guys say salt, that means aquarium salt right?

Any plain old variety of salt (sodium chloride). Don't use marine salt since these contain buffers to adjust pH for SW setups.

BTW, heat/salt treatment is supposed to be for a week to 10 days AFTER the last white spot disappears. Not the total time of treatment. And, there's no law against leaving the temp elevated at 84F for more than a week or longer than the treatment duration. Just ensure there's sufficient aeration since dissolved O2 levels decrease as temp increases.

^ It works like a charm. Heat and salt. I used table salt and bumped temps to 82 degrees.
