On a given day, I sit and watch tv next to my tank about 6-8 hours. Now, I occasionally see one or two fishes scratch their skin against the substrate which in my case is sand. I see havent seen this since before until recently.. Should I act in advance and start to treat them ? Is it better to use salt or ick medicine? thoughts ?

I see a few of them scratching their coat against the substrate here and there. No ich visibl tho.Fresh water tank with 11 red belly piranhas. Thanks in advance

If you have ick they will have white spots that look like grains of salt on them, sometimes u have to look real hard and u may see a spot or 2, and that would be from very bad water or from those other fish u added that may have had it. Stuff spreads like a mean rash. I'm still not clear on how or if ur tank is cycled.... Id stop adding more fish and keep an eye on ur levels. Even with meds and salt ick will be near impossible to treat with 11 rbp in 80 gals.

Id start with a wc now and add 5-8 tablespoons of salt, keep their temp around 80-84 but if aggression becomes to much of course lower it. Hopefully u won't have an outbreak. Wouldn't advise meds unless it gets bad.

Will do so. First the 40-50% wc then I will see if it persist. If it does I will add the salt as well as higher the temp.
