Have you tested your water?
No
If I did not test my water...
  1. ...I recognize that I will likely be asked to do a test, and that water tests are critical for solving freshwater health problems.
Do you do water changes?
Yes
If I do not change my water...

I have a 125 freshwater tank and recently purchased some new fish. I have about 5 BIG Clown Loaches that I have had for many years and I think they are coming down with ick. One of them is scratching. I've done some searching and looks like quinine is being offered as a good cure for this, but I can't find where to buy quinine sulfate ... I did find something else for purchase in the US and I'm wondering if anyone knows if this would be the same kind of remedy. I want to get a handle on it b/f it gets more advanced.

I found these ~ LMK what you think:
HERBAMAMA Quinine Liquid Extract - Organic Quinine Tincture for Leg Cramps - Cinchona Officinalis Bark Drops - Alcohol-Free - Vegan Supplement
Quinine Vegan Capsules - Muscle & Leg Cramps Relief, & Immune Support - Cinchona Officinalis Bark Natural Herbal Organic Supplements

Welcome to the forum!
Would you be able to post pics of the fish to confirm ich? Generally, the easiest and most effective way to treat freshwater ich is with salt and heat:

I'd use an Ich cure fast. You don't have time to hang around.

Most medications have malachite green sometimes mixed with other ingredients.

I understand that IchX may be the best combination as it has malachite green and formalin (formaldehyde).

I used King British WS3 as it was the most economical for a big tank. This has malachite green, Acriflavin and quinine sulphate. I was able to affect a cure on all my Clown Loaches but it did take patience as I recall. I used the full dose.

I did not know to try heat and salt so have no comment on that.

In recent times I have noticed disease of this type may not be ich but may be epistylis but I believe the medication used may be similar. This must be worth further research. Ich is neat round white spots like grains of sugar, Epistylis is scruffier looking more grey and not so uniform.

Raising the temp to 86F-90F for 2 weeks was enough to kill ick on my clown loaches. No salt was used. CL tolerate the hot water just fine. Ick does not.

Yea clown loaches are one of those less common fishes that love it super warm. I wouldn't raise it to 90 with the white cloud minnows i don't have ;)

Having said that all my fishes now and then scratch themselves - not often but they get an irritation once in a blue moon and just have to rub it off.
