Hey everyone!

Background information:

75G
-1 Small-Medium Oscar
-1 Small Black Convict
-1 Small Pink Convict
-1 Small Pictus Catfish

My problem is that my tank wasn't cycled when I introduced these fish. I have had tanks in the past and cycled tanks before, however, I came across a product called "Quick Start" by API. I suppose this is helping with the establishment of my biological filter as the Ammonia levels haven't gone above 1.0, and I do have around .25 Nitrite, meaning that there is already some bacteria - just not enough.

Back on topic... The substrate I use in my tank is white sand, and at times I thought that white sand on my fish is ick when it actually wasn't.

This time however, I'm sure my Oscar and Black Convict have a little of it on their bodies, and I was wondering if I should medicate the tank. I've read that medicating the tank will disrupt the growth of the bacteria I'm waiting for, and my carbon is built in to my filter so I obviously can't remove that.

I was wondering - how should I go about water changes & will my fish recover from ick without medications?

My pH - 7.6 (high, so my ammonia is more concentrated)
Temperature - ~78F.

I was really hoping for advice. I know I was wrong not to fully cycle the tank but what's done is done. I've been making sure not to overfeed, so that's not a problem.

Thank you!

Treating ich with heat has worked for me. If you get the heat up to above 86. I turned it up to 89. When the ich falls off the fish they wont be able to reproduce. You should leave the water above 86 for at least a week after you see the last sign of ich. You can also add some aquarium salt to the water along with the heat.
