Alright everyone, I should know this as I have been keeping cats for probably about 2 years know but this is the first time I have one in a tank that is bottomed with sand. I have a little 3inch ripsaw catfish (niger catfish for anyone who doesn't know if there is anyone out there that doesn't know). He's relatively dark and I have a white substrate on the bottom. It almost looks like he has ick but I was wondering if the "ick" in mind could be that he is shedding a mucus layer like the marble sailfins do sometimes and because he has sand in the bottom of the tank the sand got stuck to the mucus? Is that possible? I can't really get pics but it doesn't look like the white speckles are attached to him. It looks like they wave a bit when he moves. Thanks Guys

Ich usually looks a bit different from sand, more like crumbs if you look closely. Fish would also secret much more slime mucus than usual and rub against anything, usually substrate, often; stop eating too; look stressed, "miserable" if you will. If you see these symptoms, photo is almost not needed. Otherwise, maybe a photo tank may be suggested.
