Recently, the 3 Synodontis Petricola in my 50 gallon breeder got ick. The other fish in the tank appear to be just fine (EBJD, Melanochromis Auratus, and 2 Plecos). Unfortunately, the 3 catfish died. I'm guessing maybe the medication was too strong for them. Do I need to still treat the tank, besides for a water change if the other fish don't have it? Also, if I started to change the water more often than in the past, could that have caused to ick to come about?

ich can be caused if when changing the water, the water u put in is colder then ur tanks temperature

based on what i have read, ich cannot reproduce/grow at temperatures above 85 degrees, so slowly raise the temp to 86 and if u want, add salt, 2 teaspoons per gallon

Edit : also note, oxygen levels decrease with higher temperatures, so add an airstone accordingly or better yet a powerhead

there is a good chance your other fish have it as well, it just hasn't grown as much
