ID a disc shaped characin?

Ok I went to my lfs looking for a few dither fish for my cuda tank and I come across these guys. They were marked conterfiet silver dollar. When i asked what they had come in as the reply I got was that they had came in with a batch of red hook SD's. And that they were a tetra. lol

one is about 4" and the other is 3" in length and around 2-2.5" tall. They have larger scales and a black spot behind the gill plate.

Sorry for the horrible phone pic, but if anyone has a idea what they might be please inform me.

Better photo for sure the way it looks from here is a serpae tetra but i doubt it is.
 


If you moved the black spot from the tail to right behind the gill plate then this would match.

There are a few that have this shape in that thread but none with the spot.
