I just acquired a stingray. This video was taken the second day of being in the tank. It is my first ray, and I was wondering if he is skinny or lookin good? Also, if I could get an ID that would be great, i think its a retic but was in with another ray with a very long tail, so I dont think they were from the same family. I am also not sure the sex. Also, it seems to be eating bloodworms, but is kind of slow at gulping them down, will he become quicker as he gets more comfortable in the tank? Thanks!

It's a nice looking Retic that's for sure! IDK but first picture looks as if there is a little clasper present so for now I'm saying Male?

Otherwise try to get a picture of the ray's underside.

i googled clasper real quick, but it looks like more than rays have them and varies through out species? what exactly is a clasper and where is it located?

2 little claspers just under the tail will tell you if its a male or not....definetly a retic...

cool, on the two "paddle fins" under the stinger there are two "pointed protrusions" on each, so im guessing those are clasps and its a male!

its a 55g tank right now, but there is this 300g on craigslist we are trying to make work, but its 10x2x2 so not very good ray dimensions. retics are smaller rays, but 125g are pretty common (and cheap) around here. How long would a retic be comfortable in a 125? If worst comes to worst, I have a friend who has a pair in a very large tank that I could give it to, or a guy on a local club breeds leos and motoros, so even thought i dont know him, im sure he would be happy to take it. I just couldnt bare seeing it in the small tank at the LFS, and some idiot buying it that wont research or know how to properly care for it.

today, i kind of hand fed it blood worms, and it got a little comfortable with my hand as it put its disk on it a few times, so hopefully i can get it on small cut up market shrimp or pellets soon as well, as ive read that retics can be very picky eaters.

should i be worried about the really small plecos i have in the tank, they hide all day but i dont know what they do at night. they show no signs of slime coat sucking. i am getting rid of my large pleco aspa, he hasnt sucked the ray yet, but its not worth the chance.

go for the 300! and if in a year you dont want it ill buy it from you! im serious, just not the right time for me to buy it cuz ill be moving in may, ill give you a profit or trade for a smaller tank if u want, i have an extra 150 at the moment, and yes def a retic

Hmmm, yeah im trying to figure out how a 10' tank would work. The problem is that my basement staircaise is at such a sharp angle that even getting a 4ft take down there is tough. So im trying to see if it will make it into the basement of my brothers house, because both of our upstairs would not support that much weight!

that sand that deep gonna cause you more problems then you want....
