id and sex?

It does have the shape of a jag. However, due to the (though faint) stripe along the body, it resembles a Dovii more in my eyes. Post in 2 weeks, and i bet it will be a lot more clear as to what this is.


Sex would be a complete guess at this point in time.


Scratch that, after enhanching the photo in photoshop, it is most definatly a male, whatever species.

No offence, but how can you be certain?

I have had several "gold" managuensis and they did not look like this at 4", i guarantee you that. Infact they resembled regular jags untill 6-7" TL.
 
Just look at the photo. It's not a dovii that's for sure. It's in a new tank so it's not showing good color yet. And by gold jag I don't mean xanthic or leucistic. There have been jags here in the US for 20+ years labeled as "gold jags" that have a more golden color.
