In the book "Freshwater Fishes of Costa Rica" Bussing sites these slight differences between loiselli and managuense first loiselli
"The general coloration varies from silvery to golden or yellow, presenting the most intense colors below the lateral band, the back is dark grayish brown with golden iridescence, The black lateral band is discontinuous forming a series of irregular squares between the opercle and the base of the tail, there is another oblique band that extends from the eye posteroventrally ending in a conspicuous blotch on the lower opercle."
Now his description of managuense
"In addition to the black-spotted pattern on the body, the species is often distinguished by a more or less continuous black band between the eye and the tail and another between the eye and the lower angle of the opercle. The tail is brown with blue irridescence on the base. The iris is red."
