Hello all,

Recently lost two Payara Armatus, hoping to get a couple more next year. But before then hoping someone could ID what exactly these guys had and what would of been the best treatment. Initially it looked like Ick, so i added salt and had the temp at 82. Next day skin started pealing and fins where shredding, added some anti fungal meds to the tank and dipped them both in MB. Next day after that both where dead. I was also doing every other day 25% water changes. Water parameters where ammonia-0, nitrite-0, nitrate 10-20ppm.

Any input would be greatly appreciated as i hope not to have a fish die off like this again. Also had a peacock bass and jaguar cichlid in there with them. Peacock died this morning with similar signs of illness, jaguar cichlid seems fine other loss of appetite.

well if your params are really in check (this looks like ammo burn to me) then I'm going to say this was most likely a bacterial or fungal infection that looks as if it was to far advanced. MB would have been a good start but these fish were probably circling the drain as it was and the medication just pushed them over. I would get your jag on a MB dipbath schedule, and also start medicating him with either a broad spectrum anti-bacterial med like quick cure or maybe even go with kanaplex.
