Amongst the Catfish & Plecos
I have had two "Giraffe Cats" as they were sold to me almost two years ago now. When I got them, it was suspected they were different species due to very different patterns and growth rates. Now two years later, I have no idea what this little one is. His nose is quite short in comparison to my other one (I think the first shot reflects it the best). He's about 7.5" tip to tip (that's eyeballed but relatively close), and his grow rate is very slow if he is growing at all at this point. I got him at a little more than 1 inch smaller than he is now. I apologize for the quality of this pics and the water spots, but he doesn't exactly come out and pose all the time. He's much shier than my 'in your face' large one.

I've been digging through planetcatfish, but haven't found a great match.

Did it have spots when it was smaller?

During the two years I've had it, it never really had typical spots. If it had anything, it was pretty close to what it is now, with maybe a few more light brown spray painted looking splotches like it sort of has now.

I thought that I may have been onto something, but now I'm not so sure, lol. Looking at Auchenoglanis tchadiensis I saw that the spotted pattern it has when young, changes to a similar pattern to your catfish as it gets larger. But I can't really say that the pattern looks exactly alike... so I'm probably wrong, lol. Just throwing some ideas out there I guess. :)

another reason I didn't think it was this one was the length of the nose. It seems to be longer in A. tchadiensis.

I can tell I'm going to need to get more photos even for myself. Also, I should see if I can get a hold of its previous owner and ask if he has any old photos of this guy.
