The salt will help with the stress but will do nothing for fin rot. The only treatment that I have ever seen work for fin andtail rot as its commonly called is antibiotics. I would treat the fish with maracyn and maracyn2 at the same time for a week to 10 days. I have spent a over a hundred dollars on mela and pima fixes try to get sick fish well again and have never seen them fix a fish that would not have fixed its self in time anyways.----------But be aware that antibiotics will kill your beneficial bacteria the same as the bacteria that is killing the fish. So a hospital tank is reccommended. But if none is availiable just make sure you have some cycled medai to add to the tank after tha meds are water changed out and the ammonia starts to rise.-----good luck

I would start by using salt, Pimafix, and Melafix at full dose for at least 7 days straight. You can use all of these with any other med of your choice. If nothing else, these 3 will help reduce stress (which hybrid pointed out) and also prevent secondary issues.
would treat the fish with maracyn and maracyn2 at the same time for a week to 10 days.
I agree, along with the other 3.

no, he is alone. i read that i should do 30% wc every day. the direction on the melafix says to treat for 7 day then do a wc. what should i do, what do you personaly recommend. by the way his fin fot got worst, i dont what him to die. he is the first fish i had for for the longest, it will be a year in Feb.

If you want to give it the best chance on living it will need immediate antibiotic treatment. To be honest with you by the look of his nose/chin area, i thought it was very very bad but know that you say it is worse there is no question in my mind that this fish needs antibiotics NOW. Pu tit in a hospital tank if you can. And treat with maracyn and maracyn2 for a week to 10 days. If you can not put it in a hospital tank due to size or what ever then just treat the tank it is in. And do water test daily for ammonia and if you find any do water chages.
