These fish are around 1.25-1.5 inches. My fiance works at an LFS in our town, and these fish were found mixed in with a shipment of red devils. I am hopeful, but unsure, and plan to get a good look at them in person tomorrow. I have only seen a handful of tiny festaes before. The spot on the tail, shape of the face, spangled red fins, and horizontal line make me suspect these 'red terrors' may have been mixed in with the 'red devils'. This would not be the first time I have picked up uncommon fish mixed in with common fish at this store.

Please excuse the poop quality.

seriously guys, If you could, just a quick opinion. I was planning on buying these three tomorrow if there's even a slight chance. But if these are, without question NOT a. festaes, I won't waste my time and money. They don't look anything like red devils to me.

Not Festae sorry

I really don't think they look like red devils. I work at a different LFS than the woman and I see young RDs/midas all the time, Ive never seen faint barring on a RD ever. I know it's uber-unlikely that it's a festae, but I'm not worried about that because I have a unique opportunity to see the wholesale ordering from my work and will be able to get them very soon. I Just wanted to see what else they could be, they resembled red terrors a little to me. I have a couple pics of festaes that young and I see a resemblance.

thanks everyone! PS - I WILL let everyone know tomorrow after seeing them in person. It's really hard to see a pic and get a positive ID. couple other things:

1. They looked so different from the other RD/midas guys that they were put into a different tank on the manager's orders and
2. apparently they aren't behaving like a young midas at all. They are extremely shy and not at all quarrelsome. I know festaes are one of the meanest when sexually mature, but not when young. Red devils bicker a lot all the time [i realize this is not reliable or absolute, but it is an observation].
