Bought it at a LFS the other day... Thought it was an interesting looking plant and the workers didn't really know much about it or what it was called. Bought it for a couple bucks. Can anyone identify?

The workers seemed convinced it was meant to be left floating and not rooted in the substrate. The whole cluster is one plant. At the LFS where it had been left untouched for a while, most of the grass stood upright and penetrated the surface of the water, almost forming a little island. In the last picture you can see it's already starting to perk up again... tempted to go back and buy the other one they had, it's a neat little plant. Great for my snapper, who likes to have some floating plants to use as cover, and probably a great nesting place for small fish

Micro sword looks like the one. Is it normal for some of the leaves to stand upright out of the water? I now have a fogger running so even out of the water they still stay completely wet... I know many species can grow emersed as long as the humidity is high enough.
Also... what are some benefits of planting it over letting it float?

Benefits of planting include aesthetics, and general cleanliness. With a big wad floating around, I imagine it's making quite a mess. Planting it will allow you to manage the plant better.
