the most saught after cichlia in hong kong is called a "Brazilian" Would like to know the ID on this fish. Have attached photos from a book that match the fish in question.

which species (adult) has the speckles covering the entire body muting bars, and speckles including all upper and lower fins (which are red/aqua)?

the ID in sticky has a fish fitting this description:
Cichla monoculus "Rio Negro"
- top 2 photos

monoculus on this website shows a fish with no speckles
http://www.acuteangling.com/taxonomy/Cichla%20monoculus.html

this photo labels this fish an ocelaris. speckles are those I speak of on both the body and fins but fins are dark on this fish

these fish match the fin description speckle and color but not so much the body (perhaps not fully mature?)

Cichla Kelberi :)

When they are small it's harder.

kelberi!! As with any cichla, their patterns can vary greatly! mfk member Channarox in singapore has a few!

theres a LFS with some 4-5" "brazilians" kelberti. suspect as they are so hard to ID at this size. they do have a lot of speckles on the anal fins, none present on pectoral, very bright red on underside. price is 500USD

thoughts?

alternatively there's a couple 12 inch fish that are kelbertis - minor scars from hole in head. didnt ask price on these.

btw got a pair of piquitis today.

i think it'd be pretty easy to ID a kelberi at 4-5". get a picture and I'm sure you'll get some very useful information!
