This was a total impulse buy. I had an empty tank open and wanted to do something a bit different. I saw these guys at a little hole in the wall lfs I discovered and found them pretty entertaining. 2 for 12 bucks, didn't think it was too bad of a price. Bought them as "Blue Lobsters" but I highly doubt they are so, ;).
I could only get one good picture...

(Any tips or tricks for these guys based on your own experience would be super helpful too.)

Thanks :)

That's a cherax blue they get to be a decent size I had one get to 6in once. Make sure you cover every hole in the cover I'm happy i found my 1st one before the cat got it. They are great animals and are fun to watch just make sure he has his own care and keep him with smaller schooling fish like neons just cus it looks cool.

Wow, thanks a bunch! I'm excited now, I thought I just grabbed a little crayfish.

Much appreciated. I read they will try to eat each other during molting? Have you ever had experience with this?

The correct name is Cherax quadricarinatus, and you can find care information for it here: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=201926

You will require a large tank for this species, as it will easily reach over 9". But a very awesome species to own, my male (just at 9", pictures in my album if you want to see him) is one of my favorite crayfish. They're very entertaining and less aggressive than most species.

And they will try to cannibalize each other when molting, but this can be avoided (for the most part) by providing a large enough tank to keep multiples in, lots of hides for each crayfish (not just one per cray), feeding them regularly with a varied diet and maintaining a clean tank (poor water quality will occasionally trigger them to kill off tank mates).

I had one for a while and he ate the smaller fish in my tank... Then he decided to get out and we couldnt find him. My gf found him a couple days later in her hamper...

it seems to me that you have a female, i recently purchased some of these myself, you should find a male so they can mate, its easy to distinguish between the male and female, the males will have a patch of red on the outter side of their claws/pinchers at the tip and the females lack this good luck on raising them
