Need help in ID for this snail. Got it in the net while collecting feeders. Placed it in on one of my tanks thinking it won't breed being the only one.

That was two weeks ago. It's laid eggs at least 4 times and they are hatching. Now have little versions of this crawling all over the tank.:WHOA:

It's a Marisa cornuarietis.

They eat anything, if you have any live plants those will be the first to be devoured. They can live in freshwater to light brackish water (but will not lay eggs in brackish water.)

They are cool snails, can get pretty big, about two inches diameter.

Looks like a columbian ramshorn to me, that name applies to several snails now days, as you are in Miami then Newtothis is almost 100% sure to be correct as to the species. If the adult is more than 1 1/4" across then again it is almost sure to be a marisa. Many state ban owning them as they are tremendous plant eaters. They do help control floating plats in snall, enclosed ponds, and when crushed, make excellent food for many fish.

I have a few that are exactly like that, and mine get to be 1.5" in diameter at least, but they haven't touched the plants yet, in the 3 months I have had them.

It's pretty big. I'd say at least 1.5 inches. Currently in a gravel bottom tank with no plants. Have Colombian Zebra Plecos in the tank and no loaches.

Can they be used for controlling Algae in the tanks?. Will probably place a few of the little ones in some of my outdoor tanks to check their usefulness in controlling Algae.:)

Let us know, they have a bad rep fot eating water plants, might be that they aregreat algae eaters as we and it just doesn't get reported.

Did someone say they were banned? If they can live in brackish water, than I want some. Breeding pond snails drives me off the wall. My puffers haven't had a snail in a while. You think I could order them from TFD?
