No they are not the same. While florida spotted gar is a popular name for the florida gar, Lep. platyrhincus, it makes it very confusing to the people who know that there is in fact a true spotted gar, Lep. oculatus

not the same. two different species (Florida gar, and spotted gar...both have spots).
