I’ve grown this guy up from about an inch he’s about 5 inches now. Hilariously he was trying to nudge an 18 inch blue eye when I shot these Less than adequate pictures. The shop thought he was an L333 but was not sure. He came in by accident.

L066

I believe recently there was some data suggesting L066 and l333 were genetically married.

I've been breeding L333 for a few years and as they grow do vary in both color and pattern.

I believe its largely accepted that the finer closer lined fish are L066 and the larger fatter lined fish are L333

There are many other undescribed fish of the Xingu that creep in with various shipments.

The variation in color and worm pattern could very well just be from all the isolated geographic regions of the river system.

Heres a quick pic of one of my females

Appreciate the responses - I wasn’t convinced he was L333. Was leaning toward L66 and then I just through up my arms when I saw a picture of L401 that looked exactly like him, lol.

I do recall something about L066 tails being deeper forked and slightly longer in profile compared to l333

This is facts. When differentiating 333 and 66, I believe that the pattern is not reliable, body shape is.

Orthopod’s Hypancistrus body shape seem like L333 but the tails in the photos seem like L66.

I think getting a better photo of a fully extended tail will help with identification

I would also like to add that L333 is more common than L66
