I was just at my local pet store and I saw a catfish I have never seen before. They have a name listed on it that doesn’t exit. After scanning the web it seems to look like a Piraiba. What do you guys think it is? Might want to get it today regardless.

Looks like capapretum.

Yeah looks like false piraiba which may be better as a true piraiba gets allegedly big enough to eat people

Pretty sure viktor is right. Spots are same size as eye and not bigger than the eye. For some reason I was thinking cap.

Right. Plus small capas appear less balanced, front-heavy, and their heads are bulkier and shorter.

It’s selling to $80. I’m guessing that’s a good price then?

The LFS doesn't know what they have. Your gain. In the recent years filamentosum babies have been going for $250-$500.

I sometimes hate you guys!!!!
Cheapest small one I can get here is £195 for a 4”, £350 for 8”.
You don't wanna start a fight on who is more deprived of what :)

The Australians will win hands down.

But anyhow, this is a lucky strike, don't generalize. As I say, our fila prices appear close to yours, currently around $200 or some such.
