I don't much in the way of clues, but I picked up fry from various sources early last year, some not identified. I started moving some of the larger fish into other tanks and came across three pieces of these guys - sorry the pics are poor but they are very shy. It may be hard to pick up, but the eyes are a light blue. They are about 1.5" with the larger of the three being a female with the black blotch on the dorsal and with a gold spangling around the midline. You can also see in the first pic gold coloring about the face as well. Does this look familiar to anyone? Thanks in advance.

So cute. I say Archocentrus sp. Cutteri they look a little stressed once they adjust the ture colors should show the true color. But the blue eyes and yellow body looks like a cutteri to me.

It looks like a myrnae too.

I thought cutteri originally, or variant of spilurum, but the lateral line and caudal spot is throwing me. Also, here is another pic showing the body being more elongated than the other pics.

The blue eyes and yellow body made me think of a nano, but the patterning seems a bit off.

I agree re: non-nano. Here is a pic of the larger female:

Too bad this one was head-on, but (maybe) you can see more detail of the gold and some pattern on the tail. (Ignore the fish on the left - different species)

Appreciate your opinions. Time will tell, but just me, I see some inconsistencies with this being an Archocentrus/Cryptoheros species. Thanks again!

From what I can tell from the pictures, some of the fish seem to exhibit a dorsal spot. The spot does look like that of either a female Cryptoheros myrnae or female Cryptoheros septemfasciatus.

Here's a link to a few pictures of C. septemfasciatus.

I think the fish is either C. septemfasciatus or C. myrnae, though I'm really not too sure. Age of the fish, different lighting, mood of the fish as well as the various different regional variants makes for a lot of variation in markings and coloration. Can't rule out C. nanoluetus, entirely, though the markings, I would think, would be untypical. With age, it should become more obvious what the fish really is.
