First off I love Oscars. Been keeping mainly Tiger Oscars as they are most appealing to my eye. I've been searching the web for a new batch of higher end/quality tank mates and came across this picture that led back to our very own forum!!! It is a picture of Red Oscars and one of them is absolutely stunning in comparison. I would like to know if it is a sub-species or hybrid or....... whatever. It stands out on its own, but it is the one in the top row, second from the left. Can anyone tell me the scoop on that particular Oscar????2_Red_oscars.jpg

Its just a red oscar. there is quite a lot of variations. some have a greenish face others grey. some of them are more gold and others are bright red. just genetics. Heres one I had before, probably one of the more redder ones I`ve seen. especially for an adult!

my 5 inch growout looks similar... in my avatar

Thanks Friedflowerhornfillet. I got him for free with that foot long male festae for $20.

how can you say no to a deal like that? Really gave my 225 a boost of color haha.

Oscars do tend to lose some color as they grow, some specimens lose a lot of color whereas line bred varieties such as super reds will keep a high amount of color. There are some very red ones coming out of singapore these days, I assume the one I had was one of these line bred varities. Kinda like the super red severum

Yours looks to be a nice albino red imo mate?

Thanks for the help guys. It really is a beautiful Oscar. Awesome looking Oscar rafini! Wish I had that much luck with red Oscars. They always lose a ton of color as they get around the 8 inch size no matter what I do with their diet. It always kills me when they get plain looking.
