ID hybrid cichlid?

Here is a cichlid I rescued from a friend. He thinks it is a wal-mart hybrid. I can't find anything on him. Thanks

Can anybody sex it for me? And can I keep it in a 5 gallon aquarium by itself? I want to flush it but I will take good care of it because I know it's right. So I will have an empty 5 in 2-3 weeks or an empty 10 in 6-8 weeks. He is about 4-5 inches. Adult I'm assuming.
 
i'd say a 20 bare minimum, but if you have to keep it in the 10 until you can get a larger tank. He looks like a nice fish. I think its male , but not sure

The color suggest male, the fin shape and very small eggspots suggest female. I would vent to be sure.
