lfs "red devil" = midevil.

i don't know about the first though. i feel like vieja hybrids are starting to show up more and amore.

Second is a midevil. Not completely sure on the second but some sort of veija/paraneetroplus which could be a hybrid

Possibly. To me, the 1st pic could be SynspilumXZonata, and the 2nd pic could very well be a true Devil. It doesn't appear to have the thicker heavy-set appearance your Midas and FHs have....I have a THICK RD, but I still don't see Midas in her - the one in the pic is nowhere near as solid as my little psycho. I say true RD.

Cheers, Mate.

Bandahoot Bandahoot - you sure feeding them trout-minnows is such a good idea? I mean they're safer than goldfish, but still not a great plan. I keep a constant stock of Rosy-red/Tuffy minnows and they always die for "no" reason.....

.....in fishtank- and fish-language, the "no" translates to "for a reason humans don't and will likely never know". This is one of those cases where what we don't know still CAN hurt us.

Stick to live crickets or earthworms if they like live prey, both you and the fish will benefit much more in the long run and they'll be happier and healthier when age sets in.

Stanzzzz7 Stanzzzz7 may have an opinion about the first one.

20 years ago I could walk into a LFS and be reasonably sure what was marked, was what it was said to be.
I don't believe that anyone can know if any Vieja (or just about any cichlid) is what it is called these days.
Sad but true, there is no way seeing a photo, or even live, that anyone can tell what any Vieja is just by looking. In any spawn, a certain percentage, look like the mother, and equally so, the father. But either would be a hybrid in a crossing, so you can give a name like king-sumo this, or kokface that, in the end, a mutt is still a mutt.

Nice for 5$ you scored. Well I do sell my midevils for cheap at that size as well. Sold a 15.5" F1 midas for 20$. It's hard to find someone who has a big enough tank. I turned down everyone who had a 120 gallon or smaller. One guy wanted in his 20 gallon long...lol

I would use that vieja for a project to make a classic kamfa. lol

Its pretty amazing a living MD can be delivered for $5.00, just with transportation costs and housing costs alone.
