Early next year I'll be purchasing a 300 gallon 96x30x25 glass tank.

So far I've decided I'd like to raise a Silver/black Aro, ornate bichir, and my wife's common pleco.

Right now the common is 8", but he should be closer to a foot long by then.

Would there be a strong chance of them eating eachother?

Is this tank large enough to house the silver/black for life?

I'm planning on doing a DIY wet/dry along the lines of this but bigger and two of them and a large rubbermaid container or two: DIY wet/dry
and adding a FX5 at a later date.

Also, any recommendations of other fish/variations of bichir?

Thanks in advance.

you can keep the silver/black aro in the tank for life :)
i also have a 300 gal tank.
though you might have problem with bichir and pleco together.
some plecos like to suck on bichirs slime coat.

I've heard they sometimes do this to discus aswell, but that stems from starving most of the time. I wonder if it's the same deal for bichir?

Thanks for the thumbs up on keeping the aro for life. :headbang2

good space for a silver to grow huge in. rays would be nice too with the aro in a small amazon set-up

Rays sound intresting... They're toxic arn't they though? I have two small kids and I had to lie to the wife for her to agree to the aro.

Would a ray be OK with the other three or would it be best to keep a Aro, plec, and ray?

Btw, which ray/rays would you recommend for that size tank that sell for a decent price (50-80 USD?)

Thanks for the heads up batang!

Does anyone know if it's plecs in general, or just the meat eaters?

The L091 Three beacon can stay in the 75 if he'll be a threat to the bichir/ray, but the common will have to be in the 300gal. Hopefully he's a "safe" plec, because those bichirs are cool as hell.

your welcom,
mine were ordinary plecs , they liked to suck my bichirs.
maybe you can try and observe, if it starts to suck on you bichirs, better bring him to the lfs to trade for other fish :)
