Bear with me as I’ve went from never owning a bichir to owning 3 in the space of the last 3 weeks!

First I got a small 9-10cm Ornate. After he settled in I thought ok let’s get another bichir since most folks seem to keep a bunch of them together like Pokemon, and they do well together so why not? I shared this thought with a friend.

After a couple of days I got an 8cm Endlicheri and literally later the same day my buddy texted me “left something behind your door”, and in comes this handsome fellow…

He’s around 15cm I reckon, but quite shy, it’s taken me a week to finally get a good picture of him! The Ornate seems to hate him and will go nip his tail whenever it spots him outside even though he’s much bigger.

My friend says it’s rarely seen in shops. When I asked he said it’s the elusive Great Golden Bichir!

Anyways I think it’s a Guinean Bichir but I’m nut sure. What do you guys reckon?

Oh and so far all my bichirs have eaten is frozen shrimp and bloodworms. What food should I get for them?

A small P. palmas, more closer to the 'buettikoferi' pattern-form but given the wide range of intergrades and overlap in ranges/pattern it was declared invalid as a subsp.

Could be P. Palmas, as far as food goes i alternate between thawed cut fish(i like to cut it into strips and APPROPRIATELY sized chunks; and massivore pellets

Damn, you guys are right, and I’m kind of gutted it’s a Palmas. I was excited thinking it’s a Guinean. Now I know it’s going to be by far the smallest bichir in my tank. Should I get rid of it? You think it can still hold its own with the ornate and endlicheri?
