Hey guys.
Can i get some help IDing my slightly pissed off JD? Just had a water change so its moody. I was thinking it was female but not 100%

Looks male to me, blue "beard" n the gill plate is what I normally go by, and this one's is not as thick as most females I see.
I think you have it mixed up. Females are the ones with the blue beard and males have just a few dots under their eyes. The body shape and color in the third picture makes me think 100% a female because I have had a pair of JDs in the past and this fish is identical to my female.

Also the fins are rounded in these photos while a males fins most of time are more pointed.

I don't have it mixed up, I know that the females are the ones that have the more full blue beard. What I am saying, is that the beard on this fish, does not look full enough to be female, to me.

Presence of a small nuchal hump (bump forehead) also makes me think male

My bad. I agree the beard does not seem full but it is more beard then you would see on a male so It could be either way. Best to truly know is to vent it.

Because you have a very light (white) substrate, in order to get a proper photo of the lower jaw, you will need to catch it as the JD is hovering over the dark wood, otherwise the reflection of the while substrate washes out the lower jaw area, making gender ID difficult
And try to catch as much of the lower area as possible, not from above.
