tiger shovel nose

it will get big fast

prolly be aobut a foot in 6 months depends on how u feed it

it will eat any tank mate that will fit in its mouth

gets about 3 feet in home aquaria

but in wild will get like 4 feet

tnx. i was hoping it was a tiger shovelnose. what is the best food for these? they have been fed shrimps.

keep it on shrimp. saves a but load of money, also sinking pelets. When it gets bigger feed local fish after quarntining them for 4 weeks.

Pseudoplatystoma fasciatum
Accepts all kinds of live food. But get him/her off that they will eat meat and fish pieces, earthworms, fresh shrimp raw or cooked and dried krill When bigger then beef heart and or hot dogs:naughty:

Shovelnoses are easily spooked and can and have smashed through tanks my one has gone from 3"-17" in a year

Dont feed your fish hotdogs.... They are loaded with nitrates or nitrites i get confused. and will slowly kill your fish.

harsh to have a tankbuster stotty. this may be a stupid question, but you dont cook your hot dogs or do you?

The only drawback I have found to feeding hotdogs is the elevated nitrate, NO³, levels in the water which necessitates frequent water changes. But my one being in a pond and has a auto water change system it's not a concern. Sometimes there is a slight sheen on the surface after feeding hotdogs but when they get large its a treat. no i dont cook then. What i am trying to get at is they will eat every thing they can that is a meat based product. That also goes for any tankk mate that can fit in its mouth.

I have caught some nice cat fish on hot dog when fishing they love the things but yes dont fill the tank/pond in with them. They are a good stand by to have in stock.
