I just got this guy today, and I have no idea which species it is. The fish store lady said she didn't think it got much bigger than 6-8 inches, and there were some larger ones at the store, I would say at least 8 inches.

This one is 6 inches, it was the smallest one there. Hopefully these photos are good enough for an ID.:)

agreed. with out a doubt. featherfin squeaker aka eupterus

mine is at least 9"

Thank you so much for the replies.:) I had a feeling that is what it was. 9" would be okay, more than that and I think it would be too big for my tank.

Anyone have any good info about them? Social behaviour? Diet? I'm off to read what I can about them.

Will the dorsal fin grow back?

Also, they had some striped Raphael cats there as well, they were small though, only about 2-3". Could I add one to the tank? Would it be okay with the Syno? What about 3" Clown Loaches, will it go after them? Sorry for all the questions!

As my syn. grew larger, it's dorsel fin became shorter, and never grew long like it used to be. As for diet, mines will eat anything and everything i feed it. My feather fin syn. is a pig and is way fat.

mine has an unsociable ouburst every now and then ,, and spits its dummy out if another fish invades its space ,, but most of the time a very sociable fish
