i bought him yesterday. nobody in the photolounge really helped so I'm coming here. its about 4" long if that helps.

Does look like it could be Crenicichla lucius, but its got stress colors, so that makes it a little annoying...haha. Can you get in the tank shots? Great pike 100%! Gonna be stellar in no time! :D

yup its a cren. lucius. i looked up some photos of one and looks like mine in regular pattern. i read that they get to be around 7" long is this true? there were two more at the store but they didnt look so good. also, what should i feed him/ her since it likes to stay at the bottom of the tank? i tried frozen silver side chunks and shrimp pellets. i could only get it to take feeders with the rest of my fish (one time thing).

thanks for the ID penut.

got some shots of my pike in normal colors. sorry for the slight glare off the scales.

Now that is one nice pike!!!

Don't thank me, sicxspeed was the first one to ID it...;). He deserves the credit...;).

They should get around 8 to 12" give or take....haha. They are a Saxatilis pike, and are quite attractive at that. Most Sax. pikes range from 8" to 12" as adults, depending on the species and gender (males are generally larger).

What other fish do you have it with? If you have some other cichlids in there that are already eating pellets and the like, that would be best. It will see them eating and gradually try them itself. Mysis shrimp is always a great food, as well as many sinkin pellet type of foods, like Hikari Sinkin Carnivourus Pellets. Switch it up, pikes are gluttons, and will try to eat almost anything!! Kan be bad at times! haha

sorry sixspeed. looked up cren. saxatilis instead of lucius :nilly:. i have him with a 4" fh, 4" lmb, and a 10" ornate bichir. the fh is kinda a wimp and wont really come up to eat. the best eater in the bunch is the lmb but i just started to train him on to pellets. ill try some frozen squid right now and see if that gets them to eat.

hahaha, thats alright, im just starting to get the whole ID this pike thing, especially with the Sax type species. Can be tuff. But I currently have two of these little guys and they are spoiled (as are the rest of my fish) they eat frozen blood worms, brine shrimp, beef heart and fish filets. I tried feeding Hakari Gold Pellets, and they get ignored by everything other then a pair of Jags and some Silver Dollars.

These guys do have a little attitude on them, nothing to major but they can hold their own if needed and they eat like freshly released hostages.

I have tried pellets but for now my lucius LOVES brine shrimp and bloodworms. He looks at the pellets like it is poop... kind of funny to watch his reaction to them LOL However mine is only 2 inches long versus your four incher....
