I found this guy at work in our ghost shrimp tank. Its common for us to get mosquito fish, various killis, sunfish, and darters but Ive never seen anything like this before. I assume it is some sort of sunfish but I have never seen one so colorful at such a small size. He is about .5" long!

Looks like a cichlid to me, I am guessing African. I have never seen a sunfish like that.

The fish is so small I cant get good pics and yes it does look like an african cichlid in the pics but in person it really looks like a sunfish.

Correct me if Im wrong dont African cichlids have a dorsal fin that is straight across while a sunfish has a spiny and a soft dorsal fin that connect together but the soft one is more rounded? Im sorry my fish anatomy terms are lacking but my point is that this fish is not quite straight across like most african cichlids but not nearly as rounds as say a bluegill...

He does have faint grey vertical bar BTW if that helps.

I have never seen a sunfish with orange fins...

Neither have I.

I told yall wrong though. I got him from our guppy tank. Now Im not familiar how they farm them but perhaps they also farm cichlids for feeders too...

Even for a cichlid though Im surprised at how colorful he is and he is TINY!

EDIT: ewurm do you have pics of that dat BTW?
