Definitely not TAFT and GAFT, siding towards VATF.
Till now I'm still unable to locate ATF lateral line :(

Anyway here's the pic, hope it's clear enough to be identified.

Thanks a lot!

I'm almost certain that those fish are all of the sub-eqatorial variety: vatf and tatf. Of those two, I'm about 75% certain that they're vatf.

Those fish are in a tank with no substrate and a clear background. And they're tiny. This is the worst possible combo of traits for identifying a young ATF. It blanches all off the identifying characteristics on the fish and makes them incredibly difficult to identify correctly. I'm relying on years of experience to draw my conclusion on these guys. It is still very ambiguous.

FWIW, if you want a vatf and end up with a tatf, odds are good you'll be very happy with your fish. The differences are incredibly minor, and if myself and a very select handful of others on here keep our mouths shut, you might not be able to tell them apart because they're so similar.

Long story short, if you want a vatf, I'm confident that you'll be happy with these fish.

Yea man! I used to have 2 taft but really never trust a catfish. I'm actually wanted TAFT more than VATF, they are a lot less aggressive to tank mates compared to VATF at least thats my experience.

So as long its a VATF or TAFT and not FATF I'm happy about it!

Once again thank you so much for your time! You are truly helpful as usual!

Hi Rob, i've sold off my dorados and back into ATF once again. Before that would love to know how can you be so sure that the fish above is not FATF or BATF? What are the giveaway? Sorry to brought up this old post as I am still unclear and would love to learn more about ATF identification.

Thanks!
