Saw two in a LFS. One was no more than 5inches, the other was about 10inchs. Color of the smaller specimen was brighter in color. Reddish, like a red clay color. Never seen anything like that. cost was 20x's more than any of the other more common birchirs. Sorry wasn't able to get a photo. Any idea what it may have been?

No idea, but it sounds awesome. Maybe Xanthic or something?

I am gonna guess ropefish, mine is really red

sorry i didnt take a photo of it and the LFS is a day trip away. it wasn't as long as a rope fish but come to think of it, body type is slender. head's not like an endi.

Came across a photo that closely resembles the fish. Name is polypeterus retropinnis or Polypterus mokelembembe

.

Retros are more green to yellow. Mokes are more brown to orange brown.

Taking pics of the bichirs from the net without really know what the bichir in your LFS still won't help on the ID. Pics of the fish from the LFS will surely clear everything.
