Hi All,

I have a outbreak of snails in my 450G bass tank and need to know what type they are ? and how to get rid of them, May be a good one for Lupin:nilly::nilly::nilly: Below is a pic of the culprits.

You don't have to get rid of these entirely. There is nothing wrong with having these snails in your tank. If you have a population explosion of this, it is because you are overfeeding and food leftovers sustain their population. Don't get a fish to do the job for you. All it needs is cutting back on feeding and the population will reduce itself dramatically. I still cannot even proliferate them myself as quickly as before but that's because I have other snails and goldfish that are outcompeting them for food which is one reason I decided to spread my MTS in other tanks to sustain the population.

Could always read this but in all honesty, there is no reason to eliminate every snail.

Smash them with a hammer and feed them to your fish. They'll appreciate the extra protein. You can't smash them with your fingernails and risk damaging your nails in the process due to the thick shell structure. You have a lot to be thankful to those snails. They burrow the substrate like earthworms thus preventing dead pockets from forming which could potentially harm you as the owner and your fish altogether.

Do Goldfish and Koi eat these types of snails ?
They can't when you consider the shell structure. I mix my goldfish with all my snails especially apple snails and none are eaten. As for koi, I haven't tested the compatibilities but MTS won't definitely be eaten with their shell structure enabling them to avoid predation.
