Hello all, well this is my first post. I have had a cichlid 130Liter tank for 3 years now, mainly malawi cichlids in there with a tandanus cat fish and clown loaches. After obtaining this fella when he was a juvi- and now he aint so small- i have decided to get another tank, just for him for the time being so all the small fish left have a chance to live!

The pet shop didnt have a name on his tank when i got him, and they werent too sure what he was. He looked like a red devil when he was a juvi, but the fish shop wasnt so sure.

Any help on ID'ing him will be grateful! also he is in a 90 Liter tank, what tank mates would go well in there with him? i was thinking a bristle nose algea eater or another clown loach-(he usually eats anything smaller then him that swims around.

Much appreciated!

Gunza,

It is a midas/red devil. Shops usually sell them as red devils. It`s rare to get either one pure bred in Australia. It looks like it`s already too big for a 90L. You will need to keep it in at least a 200L. tank if you want to grow it out as solitary specimen. You will have problems if you put anything else in with it in your current tank.

thanks for the info!
yeah i just got the 90 L a week ago and set it up/etc. he will be getting the bigger tank after my exams-
thanks again! much appreciated!

Gorgeous RD/midas .... unusal that he has kept alot of the black markings..very nice.. i have mine with an Oscar and they get along great.. some can have tank mates and some cannot.. depends on the tank size and their level of aggression.. he looks sweet! And beautiful home set up you have for him.

thanks :D
He is a fiesty one! anything that gets large or looks like him, ends up hurt or... even worse.- the funny thing is, he claimed half a shipwreck in the old tank, which he stayed in all day- it was only when the lights went off that he would come out and destroy things! so to solve the problem before i could get a new tank i left the light on in the room! hehe

i didnt want to give him much to hide in in his new tank, so he comes out any plays :D

thanks again thou :D

Ok same newbi here, just a query on what these fish are? i bought 3 for $4 AUS each when i got my convicts and they said they were rainbow cichlids on the tank. Ive googled 'rainbow cichlid' but i dont think they look similar.

Any ideas would be much appreciated :D
