Hi all you monsterlovers out there, a friend of mine just got his first gar and he bought it as a longnose but he's not sure it's really is a longnos, and he's been nagging on me to post some pics here and get a ID on the little guy.
ID on this gar??

difficult to say at that size as most gars from the Lepisosteus genus look the same at this stage. i wouldn't completely rule out longnose, but IMO the snout seems a little short...it could very well be a young Florida gar. keep us posted with pics over the next week or two and it should become much clearer by then which species it is. nice looking fish either way--

Well here's a picture of the one I just bought. I also needed an ID, mine was flagged "Alligator Gar", although I seriously doubt this is an alligator gar...
My guess is either spotted or shortnose...sorry for pic quality no time to setup properly.

It is a Lepisosteus this is definite as it is not Atractosteus in any way, By pics alone it is to difficult to tell which species at this size.
