100% bluegill. i catch way too many of those.

ive seen some people on here that say they are great fish to keep. keep them in cooler water though, not hot like tropical. idk about the food. i have seen people that said they pellet trained theirs and feed them earthworms too. some people keep them in outdoor tanks too i think. when i get another tank im gonna try to raise some. ive caught them since i was a little boy but ive never kept one in a tank, i always ate them lol.

I have a male and a female in with my koi in my indoor tank. They are about 8-9", and within a month of me getting them, I am only an inch away from them hand feeding.

I love em!

that's a nice bluegill btw. i dont see many that big near me... in fact i can't remember ever seeing one that big by me.

i have eaten them before, very very good if prepared and cooked properly

I have found the smaller you catch them, the easier it is to get them on pellets. It took me 3 days of starvation to get my 4" green sunfish on pellets but less than an hour to get my 1" sunfish on flakes.

Otherwise, they are great aquarium fish IMO. I've heard their behavior is similar to cichlids, but I have no experience with those to confirm this. They can be very aggressive and territorial, but I am hoping that my green sunfish will do okay with some common or gold shiners as tankmates. My babies still need to grow out more before I will combine them all.

I had one with oscars and Jack Dempsey's before. I caught him when he was already 8in so he wouldn't eat pellets or flakes. I fed him mainly shinners or earthworms. Really cool fish but didn't do a whole lot. I had him for 2 years before he died and took lots of different water qualities. Hardy fish.
