i saw this 'orangs pike cichlid' at a lfs. they were about 5" long, bright orange with black stripes running head to tail. anyone have an idea what it was. chick at the lfs said they were a misship and said i could have it for $10. dont want to take it home if its going to eat my fish.

It's a Cr. sp. "Xingu I", commonly called an Orange Pike. They get BIG... 12"+. They also can get quite nasty. $10 is a decent price.

If going into an already established com they should be cool.
will more than likely eat anything they can, even after eating reg food.

'xingu I' can be more aggressive than cinctas man...haha. If you've got them with robust, semiaggressive to aggressive cichlids it might work out for you. Once the pike hits about 8" its going to start going into color changes, AND mood swings. Kinda like a teenager. Can be awesome to watch, and very annoying...aggression wise. I'd grab them just cuz thats a great deal and i haven't seen any pikes for sale here ever...and i've been here almost a year. So yeah. If you are a risk taker, get them. If not, tell me where they are at...;).

im holding 2 of them at that size and so far theyre mellow. They are separated now and coming up with cons. killer fish though, also eating machines with bulging stomaches. I paid like $17.00 a piece. Will be parting with one soon Socal. Colors are UNREAL with dark substrate.
