Picked this up at a non-chain LFS. Fish is between 6.5 and 7". Also, if it's possible to sex by finnage/color, male or female? I think it's male as I did try to vent it and the two orifices seem similar in size although the vent is slightly larger than the anus.

Also, is there any chance that this GT/Saum can crossbreed with a Salvini? Would like to know to try and avoid breeding.

Thanks for the replies!

I'm inclined to think it's male as well, as the vent was only slightly larger than the anus.

Any idea on crossbreeding with a Salvini? I thought until ten minutes ago I had a male salvini, but she put her dorsal fin up for the first time since I've had her and it had the tell-tale black mark. There's been no aggression at all between the two of them, actually seem to be working as a team to catch my old dither rasboras and some yellow lab I put in long ago as feeders but ended up hiding too well. Or does this just seem a disaster in the making to you all?

Also, any suggestions on best food for growth/color? I feed NLS to my africans, but a 1mm pellet gets totally ignored by these guys. They go after the 'small' hikari floating cichlid staple.

As far as I have read, Centrals and South Americans will not breed. I have a male GT and a female Salvini together with no aggression issues in a 125 gallon.

NLS is great. I use 3 mm sinking pellets. They are eagerly accepted. I also feed shrimp pellets, krill and high quality flake for variety. Earthworms are a good live treat as well.
