I posted this fish last August and had a few responses but I still haven't been convinced of it's true identity. So before digging through my old threads please venture a guess here. I'm fairly confident it's not what has been previously thought...

yeah, I'm wondering if that's normal.

I love this fish. It's one of the most active and personable I keep. I wish I could get a positive id so I know more about this guy. I bought him from the "assorted african cichlid" tank. I don't know much about Lake Victoria cichlids but is it possible it could be a Victorian?

From the head back it looks like a moorii dolphin.
But that head is oddly shaped.

Maybe an eye biter and dolphin hybrid?

maybe its deformed thats why so hard to id.
or maybe u just have a one of a kind fish. call ripleys!

Looking at that...Victorian, i doubt it very much. I'm betting a Madagascar myself. There's only about 22 Madagascans but there aren't images for all species either. Next time I talk with Dr. Loiselle, as I have some other questions to ask him, I'll see if I can get him to look at this thread for you.

What size is she? My guess is a F Lethrinops lethrinus.
