I picked up this fish today at an LFS in Los Angeles. The owner has had his shop for a long time...over 30 yrs...so he is pretty knowledgeable. It was labeled Sunset cichlid and when I asked what the scientific name was, I was told it didn't have one. He said it was from Columbia and that some guy name something Ivan something discovered it last year. He has a ton of books on cichlids and he said I could try and look but I won't find it. He was also being interviewed for some Fish magazine while all this happened. Here are the pics...does anyone recognize this fish or is it really "newly discovered" and have no scientific name. I know I can count on MFK to solve this riddle. Thanks.
